Viveiros Aliança: from sowing to forests
More than a hundred and a half species, from small aromatic trees to large trees, share a common cradle: Viveiros Aliança. Given its diversity, size and innovation, this nursery originates plants we see in many of our gardens, parks and forests, in Portugal and beyond.
Eucalyptus, a name associated with several species
The genus Eucalyptus was long believed to have originated 20 million years ago, but we now know that it is much older. This explains somehow the fact that it belongs to the ‘universe’ of the Myrtaceae, a large botanical family. This story is even more curious considering that cloves, peppers or guava are also part of this large family.
The new inhabitants of Herdade de Espirra
Herdade de Espirra is currently undergoing a re-qualification project and undertaking to increase this estate’s biodiversity through assorted work on the ground. One was sowing the land to attract insects, followed by species monitoring whose results have just been released.
Iberian nase, a freshwater fish
Also known as river-nase or straight-mouth nase, the Iberian nase can be spotted all year round in streams and even in Portuguese dams. It can be found also in areas with abundant riparian vegetation, such as Barroca da Serra – Penamacor, currently under The Navigator Company management.

We seem to know a lot about the wonderful world of mushrooms, but there is always something new coming up. Due to their composition, edible mushrooms are considered a nutritious and healthy option also by the General Directorate of Health.
